EHS Wins With Walk Off, Altamont Edges WSS As Brothers Square Off

Effingham High School took Monday’s baseball victory in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 walk-off victory over Champaign Central.

Central tallied a run in the first to take the early lead. Ben McDaniel singled home a run.

But the Hearts came back in the third, moving into a 2-1 lead. A double by Colton Webb gave the Hearts the lead.

But here came Central, tying the score in the sixth as Nic Bralts hit a sacrifice fly, to knot the score at 2-2.

The game went into the bottom of the ninth tied at 2-2 when Carter Braddy singled, scoring the winning run.

Peter Rosen earned the victory on the mound. He went the last two innings, walking none and giving up only one hit. Wyatt Hayes went the first six innings, allowing two runs on five hits, three walks and striking out six. Wade Bushur threw one inning, giving up two hits and striking out one.

Braddy finished with four singles and an RBI while Webb had a double and two RBI, Andrew Wagoner a double and Hayes two singles. Max Seachrist and Brayden Tucker had a single each.

Braddy finished with three stolen bases as the Hearts ended the game with five.

The Hearts are back in action today as the varsity team travels to City Park (Grimes) in Mattoon for a doubleheader that was rained out Saturday. Game time is 4 p.m. The junior varsity will play host to Mattoon at Paul Smith Field today in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.

At Altamont

It was the brothers against the brothers as Altamont edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 4-3 in Monday competition.

Kade and Carson Milleville ended up throwing on the mound for Altamont while Carter and Blayzz Verdeyen were the pitching duo for Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.

K. Milleville went six innings, giving up three runs on eight hits, one walk and striking out 10. His brother C. Milleville came on to throw the final inning with one strikeout for the win.

Windsor/Stew-Stras held a 1-0 lead in the second and pushed that to 3-0 in the third. They held that lead until the sixth when  Altamont tied the contest at 3-3.

Altamont then claimed the victory in the bottom of the seventh as C. Milleville had the walkoff single. Altamont finished with five hits led by K. Milleville with a single and double, Cooper McManaway with a single and two RBI, C. Milleville’s walkoff single and Dyson Wagner with a single.

Windsor/Stew-Stras finished with eight hits led by B. Verdeyen with a single, double and an RBI, Seth Rincker with two singles and an RBI, Koy Morris with a double, Derk Friese with a single and an RBI and Jackson Gurgel and Branson Tingley with a single each.

At Altamont

At Greenville

Effingham St. Anthony captured a 7-2 junior varsity victory over Greenville Monday.

The Bulldogs took a 4-0 opening inning lead then tacked on two in the fourth and one in the seventh.

Will Vonderheide had three singles and an RBI for the Bulldogs while Eric Utz added a single and double and Jonny Gannaway a double and two RBI. Chase Dorris, Quintin Stephens and Nash Wernsing had a single and an RBI each.

Freddie Jansen claimed the pitching win, going three innings, allowing two hits, three walks and striking out five.
