 Bulldogs Win, Hearts Split, Teutopolis, Altamont, Neoga, North Clay/Clay City Win in H.S. Baseball

Effingham St. Anthony played host to Mattoon and sent the Green Wave home with a 13-6 loss in high school baseball Tuesday.

The Bulldogs ran out to a 7-2 opening inning lead. Mattoon came back with a single run in the third and pulled within 7-6 with three runs in the top of the fourth.

But the Bulldogs came back with four runs in the bottom of the frame then scored two in the sixth.

Four players finished with two or more hits for St. Anthony. Alex Mayer had three singles and drove in five runs. Aidan Lauritzen hit a single, and a solo home run. Brady Hatton added two doubles while Henry Brent hit a solo homer. Brock Fearday finished with two singles and an RBI while Samuel Link had a single and two RBI. Xander Beals added a double.

Hatton went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits, four walks and striking out five.

In a junior varsity contest, St. Anthony was a 5-1 winner.

The Bulldogs were led by Chase Dorris with two doubles and three RBI, Will Vonderheide with a double and Will Bierman with two singles.

Freddie Jansen was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits, no walks and striking out eight.

At Mount Zion

Effingham and Mount Zion split Apollo Conference victories Tuesday.

The Braves won the opener, 4-1. A single by E. Harmick put Mount Zion on the board in the bottom of the first. Mount Zion then added on single runs in the third and fourth for a 3-0 lead.

Effingham scored its lone run in the fifth.

Carter Braddy finished with a single, double and the one RBI in the game. Max Flack added a double.

The Hearts came back with a 10-8 victory in eight innings in the second contest.

Colton Webb and Jude Traub doubled in the first inning as the Hearts got out to a 3-1 lead. Traub went on to collect four hits in five at-bats. He ended up with two singles, two doubles and three RBI.

The Hearts added one run in the second as Andrew Wagoner singled to centerfield following a six-pitch at-bat. The score stood at 4-1.

But the Braves went on a run in the third, scoring five to move into a 6-4 lead. EHS came back with two in the top of the fourth, tying the game thanks to a single by Webb and a double by Traub.

But here came Mount Zion again, moving ahead 7-6.

The Hearts regained the lead in the top of the seventh with two runs. Nick Martin singled scoring the two runs and EHS led 8-7.

Mount Zion then tallied a run in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game into an extra inning.

It was then the Hearts’ turn to move ahead with two in the top of the eighth after Colton Webb grounded out and Traub singled to right field, each scoring one run.

Webb had a single, double and two RBI while Wagoner had two singles and an RBI and Martin a single and two RBI. Flack added a single and an RBI.

Rosen was the winner on the mound. He went four innings in relief, giving up two runs on five hits, two walks and striking out six.

At Olney

Teutopolis ran out to a 3-0 opening inning lead and went on for a 6-3 win over Richland County, Olney Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes had eight hits led by Davin Worman with three singles while Dawson Hoene added two singles. Michael Niebrugge finished with a single and two RBI. Carter Hoene and Henry Thompson added a single and an RBI each and Austin Borries had an RBI.

Worman went the first four innings. He did not give up a run, allowed one hit, one walk and struck out six.

The Wooden Shoes are now 10-1 on the season and don’t return to action until Friday at Flora. Olney fell to 4-3.

Altamont’s Kade Milleville threw a three-hitter, didn’t give up a walk and struck out 14 as the Indians blanked Brownstown/St. Elmo, 7-0.

Altamont took a 4-0 opening inning lead and added on three more in the sixth.

The Indians had a nine-hit attack led by Dyson Wagner with two singles and three RBI, Brayden Schnarre with a single and two RBI, K. Milleville with two singles and Zaine Miller and Blake Berg with a single and an RBI each.

Brownstown/St. Elmo was led by Dodge Willms with two singles. The Bombers dropped to 3-5 on the season and are back in action Thursday at Pana.

At Altamont

Neoga had a five-run second and that was all it took in a 5-1 victory over Charleston Tuesday.

The Indians finished with four hits led by Colin Blazich with a single, double and three RBI. Matt Probst and Landon Titus had a single each.

Malik Coy was the winner on the mound. He went six innings, giving up one run, three hits, one walk and striking out three.

Neoga improved to 6-2 on the season and will be back in action Thursday against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

North Clay/Clay City improved to 6-3 on the season with a 7-2 win over Robinson.

Dieterich held a 2-1 lead until the fifth inning when Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine tied the score.

OHP then scored a single run in the sixth to edge the Maroons, 3-2 Tuesday.

Dieterich had five hits led by Jaxon Funneman with a single, double and an RBI while Landen Keck had a double.

The Rams tallied single runs in the second and sixth before finishing with two in the seventh.

The Eagles had only two hits and ended with three errors. Quincy Fulton and Reed Tharp had a single each.

Shelbyville was led in hitting by Hampton Petska with a single, home run and two RBI.

Casey-Westfield tallied a 10-1 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday.

The Warriors led 3-0 after the first inning then tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth and finished with five in the seventh.

The Bobcats had only one hit, a double by Wyatt Rueff.
