NEOGA — The National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Volleyball Tournament got underway Wednesday evening.
In the opener, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, seeded eighth, downed ninth-seeded Dieterich, 25-9, 25-11.
CHBC was led by Anna Hart with six kills, Hadley Pope with 10 aces, one assist and 18 points, Kaycie Thatcher with one assist, Elaine Thompson with one block and Valentina Doty with four digs
In the second match, 10th-seeded Effingham Sacred Heart upset seventh-seeded St. Elmo/Brownstown, 25-18, 25-16.
The third match went to Neoga, seeded sixth, over 11th-seeded Windsor. Neoga won the opener 25-16 but Windsor came back with a 25-23 victory. Neoga won the match 25-9.
The tournament continues and ends Saturday with 11 matches scheduled. South Central will meet Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 9 followed by Altamont and Stewardson-Strasburg at 10 in the main gym and North Clay against Sacred Heart at 9 and Sigel St. Michael taking on Neoga at 10 in the off gym.
The consolation match will be held at 1:30 p.m. followed by the third place contest and the championship.
