Effingham St. Anthony played host to Charleston and split victories Tuesday evening in junior high school volleyball.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade match, 25-20, 25-22.

Amaya Griffith led the team in aces with seven. JackLynn Nuxoll had two kills. Nina Semple led in assists with two and digs with one.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony won the opener, 26-24 but Charleston came back with 25-15, 25-18 scores for the match.

Hanna Frisbie led the Bullpups in digs with six. Nora Niebrugge had three assists and also led in blocks with three. Taylor Denning also had three assists and led in aces with three. Payton Clark finished with three kills.

At Kinmundy

South Central claimed both seventh- and eighth-grade wins over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday.

South Central won the seventh-grade match, 25-15, 25-12.

CHBC was led by Anna Hart with two kills, Alyson Lawrence with two aces, Valentina Doty with one assist, Reece Vaughn and Hart with four digs each and Vaughn and Lawrence with three points each.

In the eighth-grade match, South Central won 25-4, 25-4.

CHBC was led by Natalie Tucker with two assists, Sophie Zumbahlen with five digs and one kill and Kyndra Steiner with one kill.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City — Vaughn, 1 kill, 4 digs, 3 points; Hart, 2 kills, 4 digs, 2 points; Thatcher, 1 kill; Lawrence, 2 aces, 3 points; Thompson, 2 points; Doty, 1 assist, 2 digs

Eighth-Grade Match

At Altamont

Altamont was the winner in the seventh-grade match Tuesday while Stewardson-Strasburg claimed the eighth-grade contest.

In seventh-grade play, Altamont won 25-13, 25-23 to improve to 2-4.

Teegan Burrus led the winners in aces with eight and assists with four. Mia Totten led in kills with 11 and had one block. Aubrey Roberts and Addi Neu had one block each. Inze Polk had two digs.

Stew-Stras claimed the eighth-grade match, 25-16, 25-10.

Altamont dropped to 1-5. Summer Martin had three aces for Altamont while Alyssa Ruholl and Adelita Ruffner had one assist each. Martin and Kara Bauer had one kill each. Ruholl, Ruffner, Maritn and Bauer had one dig each.

At Newton

Oblong claimed the seventh-grade match while Jasper County was the winner in eighth-grade play Tuesday.

Oblong won 25-15, 20-25, 25-16 as Jasper County dropped to 3-1.

Jasper County was led y Kuhl with three aces, Ochs and Hall with three kills each, Jansen with three assists, Wolfe with seven digs and Briscoe with two blocks.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County won 25-16, 25-22 and improved to 3-1.

Thomann led in kills with six and digs with three. Meinhart had four aces, Thomann, Meinhart, Stanley and Wagner had three digs each. Kuhl led in blocks with three.

Jasper County is back in action Thursday hosting Robinson at 4:30 p.m.

At Newton

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis fell to Taylorville in both matches Tuesday.

The seventh-grade Shoes lost 25-7, 25-7 and dropped to 3-4 on the season.

In eighth-grade play, T-town lost for the first time, 25-22, 29-27. Both the Shoes and Taylorville are 6-1 on the season.

T-town is back in action Thursday at Stewardson-Strasburg.

 

At Iuka

North Clay beat Iuka in both matches Tuesday.

North Clay won the seventh-grade contest 25-12, 25-9.

In eighth-grade action, North Clay won 25-16, 25-11 and is 5-0 on the season.

North Clay returns to action Monday against St. Peter at 3:45 p.m.
