MATTOON — Effingham finished seventh and Newton and Teutopolis tied for 10th in the Mattoon Boys Track Invitational Thursday.
Danville won the meet with 87 points followed by Marion 83, Mount Zion 76, Richland County, Olney 70, Charleston 42, Mattoon 36, Effingham 33, Taylorville 28, Decatur MacArthur 22, Newton 21, Teutopolis 21, Urbana 19, Robinson 14 and Decatur Eisenhower 6
Effingham’s Alex Gordon won the 800 with a time of 1:59.19 minutes while Newton’s Hayden Borgic was third in 2:01.10.
The Hearts’ Weldon Dunston took third in the 200 meters with a time of 22.59 seconds.
Effingham’s Blayne Ring took fourth in the discus with a throw of 40.65 meters.
Teutopolis’ Karson Zerrusen was second in the 110 hurdles in 15.63 seconds. Also taking a second place finish was Brant Niebrugge in the pole vault at 8.39 meters. The Shoes’ Anthony Roley was fourth in the shot with a throw of 13.79 meters.
Newton’s 4×800 relay team finished second in 8.50.73 minutes. Team members were Jackson Sornberger, Tanner Whitaker, Parker Harris and Borgic. The Eagles’ Wade Wickham was fourth in the pole vault at 3.80 meters.
