Effingham High School swept an Apollo Conference softball doubleheader over Mattoon Tuesday.
The Hearts won the opener 9-2 behind a 16-hit attack. Sidney Donaldson went long with a triple, solo home run and added on a single for the Hearts. Keagyn Koenig also hit a solo home run and added a single. Natalie Armstrong had a single, double and an RBI and Ryley Engel had a triple and drove in two. Jerzi Bierman, Mya Harvey and Saige Althoff finished with two singles and a RBI each.
Meanwhile, Althoff was keeping the Green Wave off the bases. She allowed only two hits, gave up one walk while striking out six.
In the second contest, Effingham kept the offensive pressure on with 13 total hits, blanking the Green Wave, 10-0.
The Hearts stepped out to a 2-0 lead then added on three in the second and ended the game via the 10-run rule with five in the fifth.
Once again the Hearts put the bats on the ball with 13 total hits. Donaldson had three singles and two RBI while Harvey added a single, double and two RBI. Engel tallied two singles. Bria Beals chipped in with a single and two RBI. Bierman, Alyssa Martin and Althoff garnered a single and an RBI each.
Armstrong took the win on the mound. she went five innings, allowing no runs on four hits, no walks and striking out two.

Effingham St. Anthony trounced Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine, 17-2 in four innings Tuesday.
The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the first inning. The Bulldogs then broke loose with a 14-run third inning and finished out with two in the fourth. O/H/P tallied its second run in the fourth.
Lilly Gannaway hit a single, home run and drove in three for St. Anthony. Julia Schultz finished with a double and three RBI. Ella Johnson tallied a single and double while Ava Faber added two singles and two RBI and Camille Wines, Nancy Ruholl and Jackie Vonderheide had a single and two RBI each. Adysen Rios and Ava Walton hit a single and drove in a run each.
Ruholl went the four innings, giving up two runs on four hits, one walk and striking out six.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg blanked Meridian, 4-0 Tuesday.
The Hatchets tallied a single run in the second, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Samantha Hayes tossed a two-hitter with one walk while striking out 11.
Windsor/Stew-Stras finished with four hits, all singles by S. Hayes, Clarissa Johnson, Zaida Wascher and Katelyn VonBehrens. Wascher and Ellie Wittenberg had an RBI each.
The Hatchets are back in play today against Charleston.

Altamont scored all the runs it would need in the first inning as the squad downed Charleston, 2-1 Tuesday.
The Indians had three hits led by Grace Lemke with a home run and two RBI. Ella Nelson and Sophia Pearcy added a single each.
Lemke went seven innings striking out 20. She allowed one run on two hits and gave up three walks.

At Cowden
South Central traveled to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and picked up a 16-2 win in five innings Tuesday.
The Cougars edged out to a 2-0 opening inning lead then tacked on two more in the second. They went on a run in the third with 10 and finished out with single runs in the fourth and fifth.
Along with the 16 runs, the Cougars had 16 hits and was aided by seven CHBC errors.
Bri Buchanan led the way in hitting with a single, double, home run and three RBI while Kyra Smith had two singles, a triple and four RBI. Kinlee Thompson added a single and triple while Maddie Peddicord had a double and two RBI. Zoey Feldhake finished with a double while Lauren Johnson added two singles and two RBI and Perci Reid had two singles and an RBI. Zoey Feldhake hit a double and Amelia Montes a single and an RBI.
Thompson went the distance, giving up two runs on five hits, two walks and striking out seven.
The Bobcats were led by Macee Rodman with two singles.

Teutopolis held a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. But Tuscola came back to tally four runs in the bottom of the frame. The Warriors added on two runs in the fifth. The Wooden Shoes came back with two in the top of the seventh only to fall short, 6-4 Tuesday.
T-town outhit Tuscola by a 7-4 count and Tuscola finished with three errors.
Malea Helmink led T-town in hitting with a double, home run and three RBI. Chloe Hoene added a double and Kylie Borries two singles.
