Newton High School put it altogether in a 16-2 pounding of Effingham St. Anthony as the two softball teams clashed Tuesday.
The Eagles ran the base paths behind 18 hits and three St. Anthony errors.
Newton took a 4-0 second inning lead then had a six-run third. St. Anthony tallied its runs in the third and fourth. Newton ended the game with three more in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Half of the Eagles 18 hits were for extra bases. Audrie Reich had a stellar day at bat. She connected for a double, two home runs and finished with two RBI. Sally Mahaffey, Addy O’Dell and Allie Hermann also had a good day at the plate. Mahaffey hit a single, double, home run and finished with two RBI while O’Dell added two singles, two doubles and three RBI and Hermann finished with a single, two doubles and an RBI. Camryn Martin chipped in with three singles and three RBI while Claire Probst had a single and two RBI and Bailee Frichtl a single and an RBI.
Meanwhile, Amelia Collins and Karly Deckard held the Bulldogs down in the hitting department. Collins took the win, pitching three innings, giving up one run on four hits, two walks and striking out three. Deckard went the final two innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk.
St. Anthony was led by Adysen Rios with two singles and an RBI. Ava Walton contributed an RBI.

Altamont ran out to an 8-0 opening inning lead on Ramsey and ended this game in the fourth inning by a 20-1 tally Tuesday.
The Indians put together 11 hits and drew 14 walks. Sophia Pearcy led the way in hitting with two singles, a double and two RBI. Cecilia Pearcy finished with two singles and an RBI. Grace Lemke and Sophia Long added a single and three RBI while Avery Fleeharty and Ella Nelson had a single and two RBI and Jocelyn Pearcy had a single and an RBI.
Lemke went three innings for the win. She did not give up a hit or walk and struck out nine. Long came on to finish out the final inning. She gave up one run on two hits, no walks and struck out three.

South Central put together a nine-hit attack and bounced St. Elmo/Brownstown, 15-0 in four innings Tuesday.
The Cougars’ Kinlee Thompson took the win in the mound, allowing one hit, one walk while striking out eight.
Meanwhile, Maddie Peddicord led the hitting attack with a double, triple and three RBI while Kaitlyn Swift had a single, double and an two RBI. Lauren Johnson and Perci Reid added a double and two RBI. Thompson and Baylee Brown added a single and an RBI and Amelia Montes, Addy Ruholl, Kinley Smith and Sophia Lotz had an RBI each.
St. Elmo/Brownstown’s lone hit came off the bat of Madi Miller with a single.

Only two runs were scored in this contest and unfortunately for Teutopolis those runs came off the bats of Flora in a 2-0 loss Tuesday.
Both runs were scored in the fourth. The Wolves had three hits led by K. Atwood with two singles and the lone RBI.
Teutopolis also had three hits led by Kera Hartke with two singles and Alyssa Tipton with a single.
Despite striking out 12, Tipton took the loss on the mound, giving up two runs on the three hits and walking five.
Flora’s K. Atwood had two singles and an RBI and J. Carter a single.

At Grayville
Grayville played host to North Clay and sent the Cardinals home with a 14-4 loss Tuesday.
The Cardinals dropped to 1-6 on the season and will be back in action today at St. Anthony in a 4:30 p.m. contest.
