 T-town Edges Altamont In Pitcher’s Battle, Newton, Neoga Win, St. Anthony Suffers Loss In Softball

ALTAMONT — This high school softball contest went 10 innings before Teutopolis pulled out a 2-0 victory over Altamont Thursday.

Alyssa Tipton went the distance on the mound for Teutopolis while Grace Lemke took the hill for Altamont. Both teams finished with only two hits each while the big statistic in the contest were the strikeouts.

Between the two pitchers there were 52 strikeouts. Lemke rang up 28 while Tipton brought down 24 due to the three-count.

But the Wooden Shoes got its offense on track in the 10th inning. Olivia Wermert singled with Clara Mette coming in to pinch run. Lauryn Shue drew a walk. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Jersey Gaddis drew a walk to load the bases. With two outs, Kera Hartke then singled to knock in Mette and Shue.

Altamont came up in the bottom of the ninth only to fall short.

Tipton ended up allowing only one walk.

The Indians finished with two singles, both by Cecilia Pearcy.

Lemke took the loss, giving up two runs on two hits with five walks.

At Newton

Newton banged out 12 hits in a 7-2 victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Thursday.

The Eagles stepped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning then added on two more in the third, fourth and sixth innings.

Newton had 12 hits led by Avery Mulvey with two doubles, Carasyn Martin with two singles and a triple, Bailee Frichtl a single and double and Allie Stanley a double and two RBI. Audrie Reich had a single and finished with four RBI.

Amelia Collins went the distance on the mound not allowing a walk and striking out eight.

Windsor/Stew-Stras had four hits led by Kendra Hayes with a double and Ellie Wittenberg with a single amd an RBI.

The Hatchets are back in action Monday at Neoga.

At Neoga

Neoga struck early and went on for a 7-1 victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown Thursday.

The Indians tallied a single run in the opening frame then brought home three in the second, one in the third and finished out with two in the fourth.

Neoga had eight hits and was aided by four St. Elmo/Brownstown errors. Josalyn Brandenburg and Audrey Kepp had a single, double and an RBI each while Katelynn Gollihar added two singles and an RBI and Emily Frankie a double. Kenly Westendorf finished with a single and two RBI.

Hannah Probst took the pitching win, going all seven innings, allowing one run on six hits, no walks while striking out nine.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Alivia Claycomb with a double and Dayana Haslett two singles.

At Neoga

At Chatham

Effingham St. Anthony fell to a tough Chatham Glenwood team by a 9-2 count Thursday.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead but the Titan came back to knot the score at 1-1 in the second.

Glenwood then tallied two in the third, four in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth.

The Titan had seven hits led by Ava Bobb with two doubles and three RBI, Kileigh Warren with a single, double and an RBI and Hope Gilmore with a double and three RBI. Ryleigh Kiel had a single and an RBI.

St. Anthony finished with six hits led by Ella Johnson with a double and an RBI. Adysen Rios, Lilly Gannaway, Julia Schultz, Camille Wines and Ava Walton all had a single each.

Glenwood pitcher, Jenna Hazard went the distance not allowing a walk while striking out three.
