Several area coaches were honored by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBA) and named coaches of the year.
In high school girls basketball, three area coaches earned honors. Named as Coach of the Year in Class 3A was Effingham High School’s Jeff Schafer. Named in Class 2A was Teutopolis High School’s Laurie Thompson and named to Class 1A was Brownstown/St. Elmo’s Tim Pasley.
In boys basketball, only one area coach was named. Effingham St. Anthony’s Cody Rincker earned the honor for Class 1A.
In junior high girls basketball, two Teutopolis coaches earned honors. Eric Roley for Class 7-3A and Jordan Pals for Class 8-3A.
Five area coaches earned honors for junior high boys basketball.
Effingham Sacred Heart’s Luke Schuette earned the Coach of the Year honor in Class 7-1A.
Nikki Worman was named in Class 7-2A from Stewardson-Strasburg.
Effingham St. Anthony’s John Hoene won in Class 8-2A
Two Teutopolis coaches were named. Doug Smith in Class 7-3A and Kent Niebrugge in Class 8-3A.
Collegiate Coach of the Year honors went to Brian Barone of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.
Tyler Smithpeters of John A. Logan College also won.
Two from Illinois State University won, Ryan Pedon and Kristen Gillespie.
Luke Scheidecker won for Wabash Valley College.
