Effingham St. Anthony took care of business Monday evening after trailing in the opening quarter in a high school boys basketball victory over Richland County, Olney.
The Bulldogs put together a 68-48 win behind three players in double figures.
St. Anthony trailed Olney by a 14-11 opening quarter count. The Tigers’ Reid Brown connected on two three-pointers and Casey Thomann added five points and Arjay Keller a three-pointer
But the Bulldogs’s Ryan Schmidt got unwound, knocking in two from two-point range and two from beyond the arc along with a free throw for 11 points. Brock Fearday, who kept the Bulldogs in the running in the opening quarter with two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight, hit a third three-pointer and Keenan Griffith added four.
St. Anthony then went on a 22-8 third quarter run to lead 51-34. B. Fearday continued his hot scoring with two more three-pointers, two regular baskets and a free throw for 11 in the quarter. Griffith nailed a three-pointer
In the final period, Fearday added seven more and finished with 29 points. He connected on 11 field goals, five from beyond the three-point mark, and two of three at the line. Schmidt also hit 20 points on seven field goals, two from three-point range, and four of five at the line. Griffith finished with 10.
The Bulldogs connected on nine three-pointers led by Schmdit with five.
Olney was led by Keller with 20 points while Thomann added 13.
The Tigers claimed the junior varsity contest, 44-38.
St. Anthony was led by Miles Waldhoff with 15 points.
In a freshman/sophomore contest, the Bulldogs won 47-29.
St. Anthony was led by Conner Storm with 16 and Cooper Sehy with 13.
