KINMUNDY — Effingham St. Anthony took the lead in the first inning and never let go in an 8-2 win over South Central as two National Trail Conference baseball teams squared off Wednesday.
The Bulldogs edged out to a 2-1 first inning lead and never looked back.
Xander Beals threw a six-hitter with two walks and three strikeouts.
St. Anthony finished with eight hits while the Cougars had three errors.
Brady Hatton hit a home run and finished with two RBI. Aiden Lauritzen had a double and three RBI. Brock Fearday contributed two singles and an RBI and Charley Spour had three singles. Vincent Vogel had a single and an RBI.
South Central had six hits led by Callaway Smith with two singles and an RBI, Hudson Moore with a double and Trevan Sidwell with a single and an RBI.
The Cougars went through four pitchers who gave up eight hits and five walks.

At Oblong
Cumberland traveled to Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine and fell by a 4-1 tally Wednesday.
Despite outhitting their opponents by an 8-4 count, the Pirates couldn’t take advantage.
Maddox Miller threw a four-hitter and gave up the four runs. He allowed four walks but struck out 10 in the loss on the mound.
Meanwhile, Cumberland was led in hitting by Bryson Weber and Isaac Venatta with two singles each. Venatta added an RBI.
Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville had four hits, two singles by R. Blank and a single and an RBI by L. Blessing. The squad picked up its fourth win in a row and now stands at 6-5 on the season.
