Donald E. “Turtle” Lawson 88, of Windsor, Illinois formerly of Neoga, Illinois, passed away surrounded by his family at 1:14 AM Friday, February 21, 2025 in the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Care Center of Mattoon, Illinois .
He was born November 9, 1936 in Neoga, Illinois the son of Grant W. and Adeline (Bergfeld) Lawson. Donald married Carol Maxedon November 23, 1963 in Mattoon, Illinois. He was proud to serve his country in the United States Army from 1959 until 1961 serving in Germany for nineteen months and later in the Army Reserve. Mr. Lawson worked as a Foreman for the North Fork And Western Railroad. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Mattoon, Illinois and Windsor American Legion in Windsor, Illinois. Donald enjoyed fishing, drinking coffee at the Windsor American Legion and especially spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Lawson is survived by his wife, Carol Lawson of Windsor, Illinois; son, James Lawson (Susan) of Overland Park, Kansas, daughters, Leah Jenkins (John) of Charleston, Illinois and Lora Cline (Joe) of Neoga, Illinois; grandchildren, Michelle Butler, Justin Danay (Clarissa), Brittany Campbell, Levi Lund (Caitlynn), Jennifer Danay, Kayla Rollings (Harry), Jesse Jenkins, Sheila Cline (Austin), Ryley Cline and Rylan Ard (MacKenzie); great grandchildren, Arian, Lucy, Reagan, Swayzee, Gianna and Hunter; longtime friends, Ron Russell and Karl Wente.
He was preceded in death by Parents; son in law, Steve Campbell; four brothers, Grant Lawson, Thomas Lawson, John Lawson and James Lawson; two sisters, Katherine Grigg and Jean Grobelny.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday February 25, 2025 in the Swengel – O’Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois. Visitation will be Monday February 24, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Swengel – O’Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois. Burial will be in the French Cemetery in Allenville, Illinois with Military Honors by the Windsor American Legion.
