Mary was a devout Christian and led her life to follow Jesus. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years. When her children were young, Mary was very involved as a volunteer in her children’s school and activities, always willing to give a hand in the classroom, plan a fundraiser for the Salem Community High School band, or chaperone a trip. Mary had a big heart for helping kids of all ages. After her children grew, Mary loved to travel and see the country, which she did for a few years while driving a semitrailer to the West Coast. She loved to visit her kids and enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their various sports, musical performances, theater productions, and dance recitals. Mary was a voracious reader who always had a book close by. She also loved to work puzzles and crochet. She was very proud to have crocheted blankets for many people throughout her life, including each of her grandkids and great-grandkids.
At Mary’s request, a private graveside service will be held on April 28th in Edgewood. Memorial donations may be made to Pagel Funeral Home in Edgewood IL to help cover funeral expenses. The family wishes to send a special thank you to Pam Klingler for her loving help and support of Mary over the past few years.
