Fred H. Lohman, 96 of Effingham, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2025 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to St. Anthony Schools or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Fred was born September 13, 1928 in Green Creek, the son of Frank and Mary (Waldhoff) Lohman. He married Evelyn Worman on August 27, 1955 at St. Joseph Church in Island Grove. Fred proudly served his country in the Army National Guard from 1949 to 1952 and was a member of the Effingham American Legion. He was also a devoted parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham and a member of the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus. Fred spent nearly 40 years in the beverage industry, working with companies such as Dr. Pepper Bottling Company, Grapette, Joel Fischer, and Koerner Distributing. In addition, he was a longtime member of the U.S. Trotting Association, passionately owning, training, and racing harness horses for over four decades.
Fred is survived by his wife, Evelyn; six children, Gary (Peggy) Lohman, Steve (Brenda) Lohman, Kathy Donsbach, Dave (Darla) Lohman, Diane (Mike) Tabor, and Mary Koester; grandchildren, Jenny Robinson (Andrew Wright), Chris Lohman (Casey Miller), Cole (Alice) Lohman, Brian (Alison) Lohman, Kyle Donsbach (Niki Cain), Dayne (Megan) Lohman, Derek (Celeste) Tabor, Brett (Kelly) Tabor, Olivia (Zach) Correll, and Hayley Coleman (Corey Rogers), and step-grandson, Jacob Stuckemeyer; 17 great-grandchildren, Elora, Vincent, and Jack Robinson, Clark and Olive Lohman, Madi, Trevor, Lucas, and Elijah Donsbach, Kamden, Emersyn, and Ava Lohman, Tate and Leighton Tabor, Kiara and Rhea Correll, and Rhett Coleman; 3 step-great-grandchildren, Kaylee Bridges, Michael Miller, and Lorelei Correll; great-great-granddaughter, Kenzleigh Goeckner; brothers, Norbert (Bernice), Paul (Judy), and Harold (Rosalie); sister, Mary Louise Beckman; brother-in-law, Richard J. Worman and sister-in-law, Judy Lohman.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Lena Lohman; son-in-law, Greg Donsbach; daughter-in-law, Cindy Lohman; grandson, Andy Donsbach; sisters, Dorothy Heuerman Klitzing and Luella Meinhart, brother Ray Lohman; brothers-in-law, Elmer Heuerman, Eldor Klitzing, Frank Meinhart, and Clarence Beckman; sister-in-law, Pauline Worman; parents-in-law, Albert and Amelia (Probst) Worman.
