James Delaine “Jim” Boerngen, 84, of Dieterich, IL passed into his eternal rest at 4:47 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025 in his home. Jim was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2015, went through a cancer diagnosis in 2017 and recently suffered a significant stroke.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February, 19, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Home with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Effingham, IL. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m.to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial may be made to Celebrate Recovery. Jim was born on April 13, 1940 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL the son of Oscar W. and Laura F. (Wendling) Boerngen. He married Helen J. Miller on March 11, 1962 and she preceded him in death on August 22, 2011. They were the parents to three children, Penny, Tonya and Doug. Jim graduated from Dieterich High School in 1958. In 1959, he went to work for Montrose Mutual Telephone Company, where he worked for 43 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed doing things with his grandchildren, camping, fishing, riding ATV’s, and following Dieterich Moving Maroons basketball and volleyball. In 2016, his family took him to Sarasota, FL to visit the ocean for the first time. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Coon Creek Riding Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Tonya Blair; daughter-in-law, Tamara (John) Root; grandchildren, Corey Blair (Mikalya), Ashley (Tony Button) Blair, Kelsey (Tyler) Koester, and Madison (Paul) Jones; great-grandchildren, JJ, Cooper and Gwenny and due in April, Baby Koester and Baby Jones; sisters, Jane (Lyle) Tolch and Kay Boerngen; and special caregiver, Carol Bohnhoff.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; daughter, Penny; son, Doug; son-in-law, Donnie Blair; brother, Dave Boerngen; and grandson, Cody Blair.
