Marion A. “Mary” Forbes, 91, of Vandalia, IL, passed away peacefully at 1:15 AM, Monday, February 3, 2025 at SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia with Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating.  Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Beecher City.  Visitation will be held prior to services from 10:00-11:00 AM, Saturday, at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Mooseheart International or an organization of the donor’s choice.

Marion Aline Dunnagan was born on July 17, 1933 in Paragould, AR, the daughter of William and Nellie (McDowell) Dunnagan.  She married James L. “Jim” Forbes in 1995.  Together they celebrated 15 years of marriage before his passing on October 29, 2010.

Mary formerly owned and operated the Blue Mound Tavern in Altamont and the Lake Side Bar in Keyesport.  She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Lodge #1447, Vandalia. She enjoyed anything outdoors; especially fishing, dancing, and doing puzzles.  Mary loved to be around people and cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

She will be forever remembered by her daughter, Debbie and husband Dennis Wodtka of Bingham; son, Robert “Bob” Duckworth of Vandalia; daughter, Becky and husband Randy Pryor of Vandalia; sisters, Joyce Carpenter, Phyllis Elder, Jean Ann Donaldson, Janeene Arnold, and Linda Lape; six grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Forbes was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and four sisters.
