Tommy “Tom” Gordon, affectionately known as Little Tommy by those closest to him, passed away peacefully at his home in Cowden, Illinois, on January 31, 2025.  Born on October 2, 1960, in Shelbyville, to Dale and Ethel (Hooper) Gordon.

A 1978 graduate of Cowden-Herrick High School, Tom went on to build a life marked by hard work, dedication, and the joy of simple pleasures.  He established himself as a self-employed contractor, a career that not only showcased his skill but also his innate ability to form lasting relationships with those he met along the way.  Tom’s journey was one of transformation and triumph.  As a 39-year member of Narcotics Anonymous, he was a beacon of hope to many, generously sharing his experience, strength, and hope to help new members find a path to recovery.  Those who knew Tom will fondly remember his social nature.  Morning gatherings at the local gas station were a daily highlight, where he would share stories and laughter over coffee with friends.  His early years were filled with the thrill of riding Harley’s, and he later became an avid mushroom hunter and a history and sci-fi buff.  His passions were diverse, but the love he had for his family stood above all else.

Tom’s presence was a constant in his children’s lives, and his influence will live on through them.  He is survived by his devoted mother, Ethel, of Cowden; his six children, Zachary Gordon of Cowden, Chad Beasley and fiancé Courtney Brockett of Farina, Megan Bray and fiancé Anthony Naron of Cowden, Kimmie Glenn of Carbondale, Jimmy Gordon of Cowden and Jack Gordon of Cowden; his cherished grandchildren; Tucker and Hazel Naron, Carson Beasley and M’EL Barnes, all of whom will dearly miss their Papa Tom; his sister, Sandy (Melvin) Pope of Beecher City; and his brother, Steve (Sara) Gordon of Cowden.

Preceding him in death were his father, Dale Gordon, and his brother, Michael Dean Gordon.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Tommy Gordon will be held at 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden with Satch Thomas officiating.  Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories during visitation from 6:00 p.m.until the time of service.  Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden is assisting the family.
