Florence E.M. Genaust, 93, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. Florence was born on June 2, 1931, in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Sutton) Flack. She married Billy Genaust on September 9, 1953 and he survives. Florence was a secretary at Fedders for 24 years and then as a clerk for the Illinois State Police for 14 years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. Florence enjoyed going on trips with her sisters and did so often. She was such a “family person” and loved them dearly. She also loved her cats, Missy and Mike.
Florence is survived by her husband, Billy Genaust of Effingham; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Genaust of Effingham; grandchildren, Thad (Kim Thomas) Genaust of Alma, IL, and Amanda Genaust of Effingham; great-grandchildren, MaKenna Roley, Tatum Genaust, Jaxxon Green, and Bentley Genaust.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son in infancy, Bruce Genaust and son, Dennis Genaust; and siblings, Elizabeth Shuemaker, Dorothea Moschenrose, Edward Flack, and Arthur Flack.
