Harry Dale “Dale” Finn, age 80, of Newton, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 9:30 AM – Saturday, December 7, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services celebrating Dale’s life will be held at 10:30 AM – Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Scott Avenue Christian Church, 404 Scott Avenue, Newton, Illinois.  The burial will be in the Aten Cemetery north of Hidalgo, Illinois.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM – Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the church.  In loving memory of Dale, memorials may be made to the Newton Free Methodist Church, Jasper County Cancer Support Fund or Honey Do Ministries.  Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.  The obituary can be viewed, and condolences left by clicking here.

Dale was born September 20, 1944, in West Liberty, Illinois, the son of John William and Goldie (Jayne) Finn. He married Glenda Beverlin on September 6, 1968, at Scott Avenue Christian Church in Newton, Illinois.

Dale retired after many years of service from Norris Electric. He was a faithful and devoted member of the Free Methodist Church in Newton, where his kindness and generosity touched the lives of many.

Dale was known for his warm spirit, infectious sense of humor, and love of storytelling, which brightened the lives of all who knew him. He enjoyed winning at card games, sharing his expertise on harness horse racing, and watching classic Westerns. Above all, Dale’s greatest joy came from being with his family- his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a cherished husband, father, “Popo” (grandpa), brother, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.

Grandchildren – Justin (Jackie) Green of St Peter, Illinois; Clayton (Kendra) Green of O’Fallon, Illinois; Brock (Hannah) Rubsam of Berea, Kentucky; Chanel (Jonathan) Reyes of Bloomington, Illinois; Alesha Binkley of Lebanon, Ohio; Katelyn Michl of Newton, Illinois; Kahlin Michl of Newton, Illinois; Dyllon (Rylee) Staley of Martinsville, Illinois; and Dawson Staley of Robinson, Illinois

Great Grandchildren – Tristan, Hayden, Maevyn, Harley, Amilia, Asher, Avery, Eloise, Charlotte, Emmett, Sadie, Ivy, and Stella

Siblings – Otis Finn, MaryAnn Scurlock, Loretta (Rick) Emrich, Martha (Warren) Krueger, Judy (John) Burgess, Glenda (Mark) Posing, and John David Finn

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Ruby Maples and Connie Baker, brother, Larry Finn, and brothers-in-law, Gary Scurlock and Cleo “Pud” Baker.

Dale’s family and friends will always remember him with love, admiration, and gratitude for the many ways he enriched their lives. May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest in peace.
