The March unemployment rate in Effingham County was at an even 3%, down from 4.2% in March of 2024.
Total nonfarm employment in the county decreased by 650 jobs in March from a year earlier. Employment gains were posted in Leisure and Hospitality. Rates were unchanged in Financial Activities and Natural Resources and Mining.
In area counties, the March unemployment rate in Clay County was 4.6% in March, down from 5.5%; 4.4% in Fayette County, down from 5.5%; 3% in Jasper County, down from 4.3%; 3.1% in Cumberland County, down from 4.1%; and 3.6% in Shelby County, down from 4.5%.
The state jobless rate for March was 5%, the same rate as in March of 2024.
