(A TREE WAS BLOWN OVER ONTO A HOUSE IN EFFINGHAM THE EVENING OF APRIL 2nd)

We had told you earlier about tornadoes in the Altamont and Montrose areas during the storms that visited the area on April 2.

Information is now available on two other twisters in the area that evening.

A tornado touched down about one mile south of Woodbury at 6:29pm and tracked to the northeast at 55MPH. The twister stayed south of Route 40 and went through Jewett, dissipating on the east side of Jewett. Along its four-mile path, the tornado damaged several roofs and snapped off trees and branches.

Another tornado was reported at 6:33pm. The twister touched down about 2.5 miles south of Toledo where it uprooted a very large tree into an outbuilding. The long-lived tornado progressed at 65 to 75MPH to the northeast through Cumberland, Clark and Edgar counties before crossing into Indiana. The tornado caused mainly EF-0 and EF-1 damage, but it had pulses of EF-2 damage with wind speeds of 115MPH, where it snapped off numerous very large and healthy hardwood trees south of Union Center. Several outbuildings and garages were destroyed during its peak intensity as well. The tornado crossed into Indiana in Edgar County, about one mile north of Sandford, Indiana, finally ending at 7:14pm.
