Heavy rainfall hampered travel throughout downstate Illinois over the weekend. While there were several reports of vehicles driving into flood covered roadways, there were no reports of injuries.

Incidents chiefly occurred late Friday night or early Saturday morning. A vehicle drove into flood waters along the Mason-Eberle Road but the man inside was rescued by the Effingham County Dive Rescue Team. A woman near Herrick got out of her vehicle and waded through the flood waters to safety. Dive Team Commander Terry Trueblood said the rule of thumb is for motorists to stay in their vehicles, but this situation worked out.

Over in Crawford County near the community of Annapolis, not only was there water over the roadway, but the roadway washed out.

We recorded five inches of rainfall for the weekend, Friday through Sunday, here at our studios. Clay County reported more than seven inches of rain from Wednesday through the weekend. The Salem area reported more than seven inches of rain for the weekend. Farther south and into Kentucky, 10 to 12-inch to 20 inch rainfalls were reported.

Lake Sara was closed for much of the weekend due to high water, but the lake was reopened this morning.
