Fayette County authorities are investigating the death of a young child.
The child was pronounced dead in the ER at Sarah Bush Lincoln Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia Friday evening.
Fayette County Coroner David Harris said that an autopsy on the child will be performed on Monday at Springfield Memorial Medical Center.
Harris said that due to the “sensitivity of this event”, no further information is being released and an investigation is being conducted by his office and the Child Death Task Force.
