A number of criminal charges including two counts of attempted murder have been filed against the Mattoon man allegedly involved in a hit-and-run incident involving two pedestrians earlier this month.

In addition to the attempted murder charges, 44-year-old Dennis J. White has been charged with six counts of aggravated battery, and charges of causing a motor vehicle crash involving death or injury, reckless conduct and domestic battery.

Mattoon city police said the incident occurred the afternoon of January 11 in the Mattoon Walmart parking lot. After speaking with witnesses and observing surveillance video, it was determined that White accelerated and turned his truck into the victims while they were walking in the parking lot. Both of the pedestrians were injured and taken for treatment.

White is next due in court on Monday.
