Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident where an 11-year-old boy was fatally injured as the result of a gunshot wound.
The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon in a rural area near Stewardson. Deputies say foul play is not suspected.
The boy was first taken to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, then was transferred to a St. Louis hospital, where he died of his injuries.
