 Thursday Will Be Law Day 2025

Thursday, May 1, will be Law Day 2025.

Law Day is an annual event sponsored by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. It’s an opportunity for young people to learn more about local government.

In Effingham County, students from Effingham and St. Anthony high schools will visit city officials, culminating with a mock City Council meeting. Students from Teutopolis, Dieterich and Altamont high schools will tour county offices.

EHS and SAHS students assigned to city offices include Mayor Adam Flack; Commissioners Max Flack, Sarah Hirtzel, and Jerzi Bierman; City Administrator Zachary Hartke; Economic Development Director Addi Ruiz; Deputy City Administrator Alyssa McGregor; Chief of Police Aaron Hill; City Treasurer Kelcy Stone; Director of Public Works Evan Knierim; City Engineer Reece Wendling; Plumbing and Electrical Inspector Jaxon Bridges; Commissioners Ethan Karolewicz and Addie Krouse; City Attorney Ella Swearingen; Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Alec Hakman; Building Offcial Jackie Niebrugge; Public Works Operations Manager Ava Walton; Fire Chief Camille Wines; Communications Manager for the Police Department Noah Flaig; Director of Tourism Henry Brent; City Clerk Katie Kollman; and Assistant Fire Chief Noah Jansen.

County students who will be participating are:

TEUTOPOLIS–James Hughey, Ella Tarter, Violet Turner, Addison Hewing, Nicolas Blickem, and Will Deters

DIETERICH–Justin Boerngen, Clayton Klingler, Carson Baxter, Andrew Hall, Xavier Fritts, and Dominic Ashley

ALTAMONT–Ben Osterholtz, Katie Tedrick, Brayden Schnarre, Ellie Flack, and Rayna Duncan

The participants, their parents, and the city and county officials and spouses will be the guests of the Effingham Elks Lodge for lunch.
