The City of Effingham has been awarded $373,500 in state funds for housing units along Heritage Avenue.

The funds will facilitate the purchase of 2.6 acres of property along Heritage.

City Administrator Steve Miller said Thursday afternoon the plan is to develop duplexes. Miller said eight buildings will be pursued, depending on what proposals are received, meaning 15 to 17 units. Some storm water installation will be a part of the project, along with some rezoning of the property.

The funding was announced by Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Tuesday and by Mayor Mike Schutzbach Thursday. Schutzbach said Effingham was one of nine communities in the state to receive a RISE grant.
