Effingham Public Library board members got good news Monday evening; work began today on the Children’s Room expansion project.
The project will provide additional space for the children’s area. The work is expected to take six to eight weeks to complete.
The Board adopted a storm shelter policy. The policy would provide temporary emergency shelter. The program is designed in conjunction with Effingham City EMA.
Library Director Amanda McKay said that information is being sought as part of a community survey. Input will be taken until May 15. You can go to the library’s Facebook page or website to take part in the survey.
The Board discussed a billboard promoting the library being located for northbound motorists on South Route 45, discussed security cameras on the exterior of the library building, and discussed additional work to curtail heating and air conditioning expenses. McKay said the work done by Alpha Controls has produced significant savings.
McKay also thanked Jared Chesnut for his time on the library board. Chesnut asked not to be appointed to another term on the Board.
