Samantha Hayes Throws No-Hitter, Newton, St. Anthony, South Central Claim Softball Victories

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg’s Samantha Hayes took the mound and threw a no-hitter as her team blanked Altamont, 4-0 in high school softball Monday.

Hayes went the seven innings, allowing no runs on no hits, one walk while striking out 11.

Meanwhile, she also went on the offense, banging out two singles and an RBI. Alaira Friese had an RBI and Katelyn VonBehrens had a single for the lone hits for the Hatchets.

Windsor/Stras took a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Grace Lemke took the loss on the mound, giving up four runs on three hits, four walks while striking out nine.

At Strasburg

At Marshall

Newton High School took a 2-0 opening inning lead and went on to hold off Marshall for a 9-7 victory Monday.

The Eagles finished with 14 hits while Marshall had 12. There were no errors in the contest.

Allie Stanley led the hitting attack with three singles and four RBI. Audrie Reich added two singles and three RBI. Addy O’Dell and Avery Mulvey finished with two singles and an RBI each. Camryn Martin and Allie Hermann added two singles each.

Amelia Collins went the distance for the pitching victory. Collins allowed seven runs on 12 hits, no walks and struck out eight.

Marshall’s Lynn Wellborn had two singles, a home run and four RBI while Haley McGuire added two singles, a home run and three RBI.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony finished with 11 hits while Nancy Ruholl kept Brownstown/St. Elmo stymied as the Bulldogs took a 16-1 victory Monday.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then had an eight-run second and a seven-run third behind 11 hits.

Nine players had a hit for St. Anthony. Ella Johnson had a single, double and an RBI while Jackie Vonderheide and Ava Walton finished with a double and three RBI each. Sadie Vineyard and Livia Jansen had a single and two RBI each. Camille Wines added two singles and Adysen Rios, Lilly Gannaway and Ava Faber added a single and an RBI each.

Ruholl threw a no-hitter for three innings with six strikeouts. Wines came on to toss the final inning, allowing two hits and striking out two.

Brownstown/St. Elmo had singles by Dayana Haslett and Macey Sapp. Sapp finished with one RBI.

At Effingham

At Teutopolis

South Central had a five-run inning and went on for a 6-4 victory over Teutopolis Monday.

The Wooden Shoes moved into a 1-0 opening inning lead but South Central came back with a five-run top of the second. T-town pulled within 5-3 in the bottom of the frame and both teams finished with a single run in the third.

The Cougars were led by Lauren Johnson with a double, Kaitlyn Swift and Maddie Peddicord had a single and two RBI each and Perci Reid a single and an RBI.

T-town had seven hits led by Malea Helmink with a single and double, Chloe Hoene with a triple, Jersey Gaddis with a single and two RBI and Olivia Wermert with a single and an RBI.
