Shelby County board members have approved a number of transportation improvement projects.

The Board approved the use of local funds for the reconstruction of the Bruce-Findlay Road, three miles east of Findlay. Board Chairman Tad Mayhall said the project will extend from the railroad tracks to the Moultrie County line. The cost is estimated at $2,550,000, with $160,000 in local funds.

The Board also approved the reconstruction of a bridge by C Hill Civil Contractors for $424,993.50, part of a series of bridges. Also approved was a supplemental engineering agreement for a structure over Drake Creek Branch for $12,100.

The Shelby Board approved a mutual aid agreement involving Shelby County Coroner Beth Debolt and the Illinois Coroners and Medical Examiners Association; and approved moratoriums for wind and solar energy facilities on behalf of the Zoning Board of Appeals if facilities are pursued that the County doesn’t want developed.

Also, the Board appointed Christine Matlock, James Mitchell and Tim Morse to one-year terms on the Cooperative Extension Committee, and fire district trustees were approved for three-year terms including Robert Roley at Strasburg, Jeremy Zindel at Moweaqua, Paul Bennett at Shelbyville, Brad Rowley at Tower Hill, and Tim Bennett at Windsor.

Mayhall also shared that the clock is turning at the Courthouse in Shelbyville for the first time in eight years. He said that the clock being back in operation is a point of pride for many in the county.
