The Effingham County Board’s Tax and Finance Committee Thursday recommended $300,000 in capital improvement funds be allocated for the acquisition of property for a county morgue.

The full County Board has to act on the acquisition of the property at 207 West St. Anthony Avenue, the former Pet Feed Store along the west side of the Illinois Central Railroad crossing at St. Anthony. That action is expected at a meeting of the full board on Monday.

The Effingham City Council approved a special use permit for the morgue at the location at their meeting on Tuesday.

The committee also recommended the full Board allocate $9,000 for the Millroad Thresherman Association to be held in August at the fairgrounds at Altamont; recommended the allocation of $9,000 to the Effingham County Fair for a fair sponsorship and for security costs with the final amount to be decided later; and decided against a requested allocation to Effingham County FISH Human Services since nothing had been allocated for the agency during the budget process.
