EHS Freshman/Sophomore Boys Place Fourth at Track Meet; Newton Wins JV Boys, Girls Meets

The Effingham High School freshman/sophomore team competed at the Highland Freshman/Sophomore Boys Track Invitational Tuesday.
There were 15 other schools competing. The EHS boys placed fourth overall scoring 61 points, missing third place to Edwardsville by one point. Troy won the meet with 91 points.

At Newton
Newton placed first in both the boys and girls junior varsity meets Tuesday.
The Eagles won the boys meet with 181.5 points followed by Richland County, Olney 125.5, Robinson 71 and Brownstown/St. Elmo 56.
Newton’s Henry Will was a winner in the 400 in 55.9 seconds.  Holden Barthelemy won the 800 in 2:20.6 minutes.  Parker Harris captured the high jump at 1.63 meters.
Owen Schackmann won the 110 hurdles in 15.9 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 43.2.
The Eagles won the 4×100 relay in 47.9 seconds, the 4×200 relay in 1:55.6 minutes and the 4×400 relay in 3:56.2 minutes.
Trenten Monnet of Brownstown/St. Elmo was a winner in the shot with a throw of 15.60 meters and also claimed the discus at 49.54 meters. Jaxon Moore won the long jump at 17 feet, 9 1/2 inches.
In the girls meet, Newton was a winner with 178 followed by Brownstown/St. Elmo 133 and Robinson 84.
The Eagles’ Stella Schackmann claimed the 100 in 12.4 seconds. Presley Williams won the 200 in 28.7.
Shay Bennet won the 800 in 3:01.3 minutes. Avery Geier was a winner in the 1600 in 6:29 minutes. Leila Tsunekawa was a winner in the 3200 in 16:09.2.
Newton’s 4×400 relay team won in 4:48.3 minutes while the 4×800 relay team claimed victory in 13:35.7.
The Eagles’ Maleah Miller won the shot at 7.74 meters and Ava Earnest took the discus at 24.35.  Audrey Beals won the triple jump at 8.41 meters.
Brownstown/St. Elmo’s Katie Berner won the 100 hurdles in 17.7 seconds and the high jump at 1.37 meters.. Ariana Kistler claimed the 300 hurdles in 56.4 Leslie Felmlee captured the long jump at 14 feet, 8 inches.
The Bombers 4×100 relay team won in 55.9 seconds and the 4×200 relay team claimed the victory in 2:00.0
