Danny “Tex” Miller age 67, of Newton, Illinois passed away Sunday, April 13, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 25, 2025 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Father Pawel Luczak celebrating the mass. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 24th at St. Thomas. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 25th at the K.C. Hall, Newton beginning at 4:00 p.m. Danny will be laid to rest in New St. Peter Cemetery at a later date.
Danny was born on July 23, 1957, in Effingham, Illinois the son of Ralph Francis and Rosalie Alice (Marshall) Miller. Danny was a graduate of Newton Community High School, Class of 1975. On October 28, 1978, Danny married Laura A. May. She survives. Following graduation, Danny worked for his father and uncle at the Miller Brothers Texaco in Newton. He spent several years working in the concrete business. First, with Newton Associates pouring concrete at the power plant and later with Egyptian Concrete in Salem. Danny retired in October of 2023, from Wade Township after thirty-four years of service. Danny was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus #1704. Danny became a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus in 1975 and joined the 4th degree in 2001. He served with the Sons of the American Legion for twenty-one years and was an alderman for several years. In his free time, Danny loved spending time outdoors and farming. A devoted family man, he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Danny will be loved and remembered by his wife of forty-six years, Laura Miller of Newton; son, Andy Miller, wife Jessica of Newton; daughter, Katelynn McClain, husband Andrew of Highland, IL; three grandchildren, Brantley Miller, Dayton McClain and Madilynn Miller; siblings, Dave Miller, wife Sharon of Effingham and Patty Leist, husband Marc of Calhoun, IL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Susan May, Becky Kocher, husband Ramon, David May, wife Gina and Ira May, wife Becky.
His parents, Ralph and Rosalie Miller, brother Dennis Miller and father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Patty May preceded him in death.
Memorial gifts in honor of Danny may be made to either the St. Thomas School or to the Jasper County Cancer Support Fund.
