If you wanted to watch a local tennis match, then Monday was the day.
Effingham St. Anthony played host to Newton while Greenville traveled to Teutopolis and Effingham was the host to Mattoon.
St. Anthony picked up an 8-1 victory over Newton.
Manaye Mossman was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at the No. 1 singles spot. Alec Hakman captured the No. 3 win, 6-2, 6-1.
Jackson Schultz won at No. 4, 6-0, 6-4. Connor Eggars downed his opponent 6-1, 6-2 and Ethan Karolewicz won 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles play, Mossman and Karolewicz had to go three sets to win. Newton’s Isaac Street and Wesley Britton won the opener 7-5 but Mossman and Karolewicz took the next two, 6-3, 10-7.
Joey Trupiano and Alec Hakman combined to win. The pair went 6-1 in the opener but it was a tough fight by Newton’s Brennan Bigard and Alex Bigard in the next set. St. Anthony pulled out a 7-6 (5) win.
In the No. 3 spot, Connor Eggars and Jackson Schultz combined to win 6-2, 6-0.

The Wooden Shoes easily handled Greenville by a 9-0 count Monday.
Colin Habing had the toughest time at the No. 1 singles. He won 6-2 then fell to Andrew Martin 6-2. Habing came back to win the match 10-6.
Oliver Lee was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at the second spot. Will Lewis took No. 3, 6-4, 6-2. Paul Huber downed his opponent 6-1, 6-2.
Owen Heuerman finished as the winner at No. 5, 6-4, 6-0 while Tommy Habing won at No. 6, 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles play, Lee and Noah Thompson battled to a 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 victory at No. 1. Huber and Lee also had a tough fight at No. 2, winning 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.
In the final spot, Derek Schmidt and Jacob Probst finished out 6-2, 6-2.

Unfortunately for the Hearts of Effingham, they fell to Mattoon, 9-0 Monday.
Dalton Short, Will Pullen, Parker Masse, Chandler Rice, Ean Freeman and Brandon Lane claimed singles wins.
In doubles play, Short and Pullen combined at the top spot for the win. Masse and Rice won No. 2 and Freeman and Lane took No. 3.
