MARSHALL — Effingham ran out to a 4-1 opening inning lead and went on for a 13-1 victory in five innings over Marshall in high school softball action Wednesday.

EHS banged out 16 hits in the contest. Alyssa Martin singled, finished with two doubles and had four RBI for the winners. Jerzi Bierman also wielded the big bat with two singles and a solo home run. Ryley Engel had a single, double and two RBI while Keagyn Koenig hit a solo homer. Sidney Donaldson contributed three singles while Natalie Armstrong had a single and two RBI and Mya Harvey a single and an RBI.

Saige Althoff went four innings on the mound for the win. She gave up one run, eight hits, did not walk a batter and struck out four. Armstrong came on to finish out the final inning, with two strikeouts.

At Louisville

Altamont put together a 16-4 win over North Clay/Clay City in Wednesday competition.

The Indians held a 2-0 opening inning lead and never looked back in ending this contest in the sixth.

Grace Lemke went three innings, allowing no runs, no hits, no walks while striking out nine for the victory on the mound. Sophia Long finished out the last three innings, giving up four runs on four hits, no walks and striking out four.

Lemke led the way offensively with a single, two doubles and three RBI. Madison Tonn also had her hitting shoes on with three singles and three RBI. Laila Hankins added a single and two RBI while Long finished with a single and an RBI and Avery Fleeharty with an RBI.

Altamont improved to 1-1 in the National Trail Conference, 7-2 overall.

North Clay/Clay City was led in hitting by Avery Romack with a double and two RBI, Faith Jones with a single and an RBI and Lauryn Snell with an RBI.

At Effingham

Charleston came calling at Effingham St. Anthony and claimed an 8-4 victory Wednesday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the first inning. The Trojans then moved into a 4-3 lead in the third.

St. Anthony tied in the bottom of the fourth. But Charleston came back with two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.

The Trojans finished with 11 hits led by Railyn Cox with two singles, a double and two RBI, Madisyn Watson two singles, a double and three RBI, Avery Beals two singles and Aubrey Hunter and Rylee Shrader with a single and an RBI each.

Cox threw a five-hitter with two walks and five strikeouts.

St. Anthony’s Julia Schultz had a home run and two RBI. Ava Faber added a double while Adysen Rios had two singles and Chloe Kelley an RBI.

At Hutsonville

Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine ended this contest over St. Elmo/Brownstown in the fifth inning via the 10-run rule, 13-3 Wednesday.

O/H/P opened up with a 4-0 first inning lead. St. Elmo/Brownstown came back with two in the second and pulled within 4-3 in the top of the third. However, O/H/P scored five in the third and four in the fourth to end the contest.

St. Elmo/Brownstown had six hits led by Addison Koonce with a single and double and Alexis Holliday with a single and an RBI. Alivia Claycomb added an RBI.

The Eagles finished with eight errors in the game.
