ALTAMONT — South Central edged Altamont 2-1 in high school softball Tuesday.
The Cougars scored both runs in the top of the first. Altamont’s run came in the third.
It was a pitcher’s battle as both gave up only three hits. Lauren Johnson went the distance, allowing up one run, one walk and striking out seven.
Johnson also aided her own cause with a double. Kaitlyn Swift drove in a run on a single.
Grace Lemke suffered the loss, going all seven innings giving up the two runs on three hits, five walks while striking out 19.
Ella Nelson, Sophia Pearcy and Sophia Long had a single each for the Indians.
At Altamont

At Windsor
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg’s Samantha Hayes gave up only one hit while she and her teammates banged out 10 in the contest for the 10-0 win in five innings over Pana Tuesday.
The Hatchets tallied a single run in the first, then had a seven-run second and finished with two in the third.
S. Hayes went the five innings not giving up a walk while striking out six.
She aided her own cause with a single, double and three RBI. Zaida Wascher and Ellie Wittenberg had two singles and two RBI each. Kendra Hayes added a single and drove in two runs.

At Effingham
Effingham fell to Mount Zion in an Apollo Conference doubleheader Tuesday.
Mount Zion stepped out to a 3-0 opening inning lead in the first contest then tacked on three more in the sixth for the 6-4 win. The Hearts runs came in the sixth with one and the seventh with three.
The Hearts outhit Mount Zion by a 10-8 count. Mya Harvey had two doubles and three RBI while Sidney Donaldson had three singles, Jerzi Bierman a single, double and an RBI and Madison Kirk with two singles.
EHS finished with seven errors in the game.
In the second contest, Mount Zion downed the Hearts, 9-3.
This time around, Mount Zion had a 13-7 count in the hitting department over the Hearts. Again, EHS finished with a lot of error, this time around, eight.
The score was knotted at 1-1 in the first inning. The Braves edged ahead 2-1 in the second then tacked on two in the third and fifth innings and finished with three in the seventh.
The Hearts were led in hitting by Keagyn Koenig with a double, home run and two RBI and Saige Althoff with two singles. Donaldson added a single and an RBI.
At Effingham

At Teutopolis
Greenville held a 1-0 lead in the opener before Teutopolis tied in the second. But Greenville took off with an eight run fourth and went on for a 14-2 victory Tuesday.
The Wooden Shoes had nine hits in the contest but committed five errors and gave up six walks.
Mallory Bloemer had a single, double and an RBI while Kylie Borries added a single and double. Chloe Hoene finished with a double and Kera Hartke had a single and an RBI.
Greenville’s Ava Potthast threw a nine-hitter with three walks and eight strikeouts.
Haylee Clark had a single, home run and drove in four while Emma Bingham had two singles and three RBI for the winners.
