Marilyn Louise Mayhall (96) of Neoga

Marilyn Louise Mayhall, 96, (just two hours shy of her 97th birthday) of Neoga, Illinois, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at 10:00 pm, Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Heartland Senior Living in Neoga.

She was born April 6, 1928, in Neoga, the daughter of Percy and Lucille (Dodds) Claybaugh. She married James Mayhall on May 17th, 1946 and they were happily married for 50 years until his death on November 1, 1996.

Marilyn was the owner and operator of Marilyn’s Hairstyling Salon in Neoga for over 40 years. She was a member of the Azure Rebekah Lodge #23, Evergreen OES Chapter #96, White Shrine #57, a founding member of the Neoga Chapter of Business and Professional Women, Cumberland County Republican Committee, Mattoon Moose Lodge #312, and a Deacon, Elder and member of the choir of the United Presbyterian Church of Neoga. Marilyn enjoyed dancing, playing dominoes and cards with friends, and working puzzles with her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, James David Mayhall and daughter Teri Hoelscher both of Neoga; granddaughters, Stephanie Finney (Shawn) of Neoga, Jennifer Mast (Clarence) of Neoga and Erica Ozier (Chris) of Sullivan, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Jack and Jude Finney, Addison and Harper Mast, Zackary, Christian and Gavin Ozier.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Jim; a grandson Alex Hoelscher; son-in-law, Steve Hoelscher and her five siblings.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be used to support the Steve Hoelscher Memorial Scholarship per Marilyn’s wishes and can be sent in care of Teri Hoelscher 227 West 10th Street Neoga, Illinois 62447.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the United Presbyterian Church in Neoga, Illinois. Visitation will be from 5:00pm – 7:00pm Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Swengel – O’Dell Funeral Home. The Swengel – O’Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois is assisting the family with arrangements.
