Tony R. Murphy, 61, of Mattoon, died at 1:16 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2025 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Tony was born on Wednesday, February 12, 1964 in Vandalia, IL to Ralph and Dolores (Veach) Murphy. He was affiliated with the Methodist Church. He was a 1986 graduate of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale with a degree in Criminal Justice and had served on the Judicial Board. He was a correctional officer with the Illinois Department of Corrections and counselor at the Taylorville Correctional Center.
He is survived by: his brother, Jeff Murphy of Effingham; sister, Barb (Jason) Williams of Altamont; nieces, Sasha Althoff, Dylan Murphy, Olivia Williams and Megan Williams.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents.
