SPRINGFIELD – The 2025 Illinois State Archery Tournament is set for Saturday, March 22 at the Emerald Sports Complex in Mattoon. This highly anticipated event highlights the dedication and skill of student archers from across the state.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and the Illinois Conservation Foundation (ICF) have partnered with the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) to support Illinois’ top young archers by awarding 12 $1,000 scholarships at the 2025 Illinois State Archery Tournament. These scholarships recognize the dedication, skill, and academic achievements of student archers competing at the highest level.

By investing in these athletes, ICF and IDNR aim to encourage their continued success in both the sport and their education.
“The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is proud to be among the first 10 states that registered to participate in the National Archery in the Schools Program,” said IDNR Director Natalie Phelps Finnie. “We recognized early on that archery offers a special opportunity to reach young people, build their confidence, and encourage them to get outdoors and have fun.”
In addition, Danville High School will host an International Bowhunting Organization (IBO 3-D) archery tournament event on Saturday, April 5. As part of the event, four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to outstanding participants, recognizing their commitment to the sport and academic success.
Archery is a sport that welcomes a diverse range of young athletes, including those with disabilities, providing them with the opportunity to be part of a team and develop valuable skills. Research indicates that students involved in NASP-sponsored archery programs tend to perform better academically, experience higher self-esteem, and have improved school attendance. While the sport emphasizes discipline and safety, it also fosters fun, teamwork, and lifelong friendships.
