 Shotgun Deer Harvest Much Higher for 2024

Hunters in Illinois took a preliminary total of 82,496 deer during the seven-day 2024 Illinois firearm deer season that concluded December 8. That’s well-ahead of the 2023 total of 76,494 deer.

There were about 5,000 more deer taken in the second half of the season this year as opposed to 2023.

There 1,128 deer taken in Effingham County in 2024, up from 947 in 2023. There were 763 taken here during the first season, and 365 during the second season.

As far as area counties, there were 1,552 deer taken in Clay County, up from 1,356 last year…856 taken in Cumberland County, up from 733…1,967 in Fayette County, up from 1,683…1,241 in Jasper County, up from 1,081…and 1,308 in Shelby County, up from 1,237 in 2023.
