Hubert “Steve” Barrix, age 77 of Calhoun, passed away on February 3, 2025, at his home. A private family graveside service with full military rites will be held at Antioch Cemetery in rural Richland County. Arrangements are under the care of Meyer Funeral Home in Olney, Illinois. Steve was born on December 13, 1947, in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the son of Hubert E. and Buelah (Letherland) Barrix. He married the love of his life, Susan Culbertson, on May 9, 1967, in Lawrenceville.
Steve proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 21 years until his retirement in 1987. After his retirement, he worked a few jobs, but mainly spent his time doing his favorite activity, fishing. He loved to fish and either from his boat or the shore. When he wasn’t able to fish, he would spend time in his woodworking shop.
Steve is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sue Barrix of Calhoun, Illinois, and
brother in law; Harold and Vicki Culbertson of Oblong, Illinois
sister in law; Sharon (Raymond) Eads of Claremont, Illinois
sister in law; Shelly Doneghue of Olney, Illinois
nieces; Sheila (Doug) Purcell of Vincennes, Indiana, Lisa Allen of Robinson, Illinois
nephews; Kenneth (Celia) Culbertson of Tennessee, Ryne (Cara) Purcell of Kentucky, Gene Cravenor of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Jordan (Ashleigh) Purcell of Vincennes, Indiana
and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, sister Linda Cravenor, nephews Matthew and Christopher Zwilling and Timothy Eads.
