William “Bill” R. Springer, 87, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024 at his home.
William was born on August 23, 1937 in Effingham, IL the son of Ralph and Helen (Thoele) Springer. He married Sharon Gelsinger Boone on January 24, 1969 in Effingham, and she preceded him in death on August 6, 2022. Bill served in the United States Navy from 1954-1958. He was a member of the DAV and VFW. After serving his country, Bill worked for the Railroad, and then for J&J Ventures for more than 35 years. He made many friends along his routes in Effingham, Mattoon, and Charleston. Bill always enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and going to NASCAR events with good friends, Jerry R. Jansen and Randy “Spidey” McKay.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Sally Jo (David “Dave”) Donsbach and Peggy (Gerald W. “Jerry”) Jansen both of Effingham; grandchildren, Monica (Henkelman) Dossey (Justin), Micki (Henkelman) Esker (Eric), Mandy (Henkelman) Einhorn (Brent), Macie (Henkelman) Kirgan (James “Jimmy”), Joseph “Joey” (Kali Rafferty) Springer, and Jordan L. Springer; siblings, Donald (Jean Cain, deceased) Springer of Texas, Albert Springer of Effingham, and Thomas “Tom” (Eileen Thies) Springer of Effingham; and step-son, Dan (Jane) Boone of Edwardsville, and their daughter Emma Boone.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sharon Springer; and siblings, Sally Huffman and Mary Ann (Robert “Bob”) Parker; great-grandson, Matthew Jacob Dossey.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at the Orchard Inn in Effingham. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the DAV. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here.
