 St. Anthony, Altamont, Neoga, BSE Claim Girls H.S. Basketball Victories

FARINA — Effingham St. Anthony kept its National Trail Conference record unblemished with a 72-29 victory over South Central in girls high school basketball action Monday evening.

The Bulldogs tore out to a 20-6 opening quarter lead behind six players scoring. Adyson Rios and Kallie Kabbes scored five points each. Rios hit two baskets, one a three-pointer, while Kabbes sciored on two baskets and a free throw.

The lead went to 40-14 at halftime. Nancy Ruholl put in five for the Bulldogs.

South Central’s Kaitlyn Swift, hit a three-pointer and Percilla Reid a basket and a free throw.

St. Anthony had a 24-7 third quarter run. Nancy Ruholl put in seven points on two free throws, a three-pointer and a regular basket. Addi Lauritzen added six on two baskets and two of two at the line while Rios had six more.

Kaitlyn Swift scored six points in the third quarter.

Three players finished in double figures for the Bulldogs. Ruholl led with way with 19 on six field goals, half of those three-pointers, and four of four at the line. Rios added 15 points while Lauritzen chipped in with 12.

Kabbes led in rebounds with six and had four steals. Rios led in steals with five but, along with Kabbes, Ruholl, Lauritzen and Lilly Gannaway also had four steals each. Rios led in assists with three.

South Central was led by Kaitlyn Swift with 12 points on three field goals, two of those beyond the arc, and four of six at the line.

In junior varsity action, St. Anthony won 30-4 in one half of play. Aubrey Denning led with 13 points. Julia Schultz chipped in with six.

St. Anthony is back in action Saturday, playing host to Pana at the Enlow Center.

At Ramsey

Altamont edged out to the early lead and went on for a 48-26 win over Ramsey Monday evening.

The Indians led 9-7 after the opening quarter. Avery Aldrich scored four while Kaylee Lurkins added three.

The lead went to 23-15 at halftime. Kylie Osteen connected on a three-pointer and a regular basket for five while Libby Reardon hit a three-pointer and Lurkins was four of four at the line.

Lurkins continued her hot scoring from the line with four of four in the third quarter while Osteen put in another three-pointer and the Indians led 32-22.

Sophia Pearcy put in two three-pointers in the final period and Reardon connected on another one from beyond the arc. Lurkins finished with five of eight at the line in the final period.

Lurkins tallied 16 on one field goal and 14 of 18 at the line. Aldrich and Osteen chipped in with eight each.

Ramsey was led by Hayes and Cook with seven each.

At Newton

Newton went into a 24-7 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 70-38 Little Illini Conference victory over Marshall Monday evening.

The Eagles held a 37-15 halftime lead then had a 25-12 third period run.

Camryn Martin led three players in double figures for the Eagles. She hit eight field goals, five of those three-pointers, and was one of two at the line for 22. Karasyn Martin chipped in with 16 while Addy O’Dell added 12.

The Eagles hit 15 two-pointers and a whopping 12 three-pointers in the contest. Along with C. Martin’s five, O’Dell had four, K. Martin two and Izzy Meinhart one.

Claire Probst led in rebounds with five while Grace Schumacher added four. O’Dell had five assists and C. Martin three. K. Martin led in steals with eight and O’Dell had four.

The Eagles improved to 5-1 in the conference and 16-5 overall. They return to action today as they travel to Effingham for a rescheduled game with the varsity beginning at 5:30 p.m.

In junior varsity play, Newton was a 41-29 winner. Alani Bergbower led with 24 points. Newton’s JV is now 4-2 in the conference, 7-4 overall.

At Louisville

Brownstown/St. Elmo was a winner over North Clay Monday evening.

The Bombers won 46-37.

North Clay dropped to 5-5 in the National Trail Conference, 9-14 overall.

 

At Sullivan

Sullivan handed Cumberland a 60-26 loss in Monday evening play.

Sulilvan took a 31-10 halftime lead.

Cumberland had one player in double figures. Alysa Dittamore led with four field goals and two free throws for 10 points. Jade Carr chipped in with seven.

Junior Varsity Game

Effingham captured a 45-24 victory over Sullivan in girls junior varsity action Monday evening.

The Hearts trailed Sullivan 11-10 after the opening quarter but came back with a 21-3 run to lead 31-14 at halftime. Drew Weis led the way with 11 second quarter points.

EHS then had a 14-10 second half.

McKenzie Love led EHS with 11 points while Weis added nine and Maci Hayes and Melia Wendling with eight each.
