SALEM — Centralia handed Effingham a 68-29 loss in the Salem High School Boys Basketball Invitational Wednesdasy evening.
Centralia ran out to a 21-7 opening quarter lead and led 49-15 at halftime.
The Orphans had two players in double figures. Archie Goewey led with 16 while Logan Meier added 11. the Orphans hit nine three-pointers led by Goeway with three.
Effingham was led by Jenner Pals with 11 on four field goals, two of those three-pointers, and one of two at the line.
In other contest, Champaign Central downed Carbondale, 60-49.
Effingham drops into the consolation bracket and will meet Carbondale at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Champaign Central and Centralia square off at 6 p.m .Friday in winner bracket play.
Tonight’s games include Teutopolis against Charleston at 6 p.m. and Mount Vernon taking on Salem at 7:30.
