 Altamont Opens Stay At Sesser Valier Tourney With Victory

SESSER — Altamont High School opened its stay at the Sesser Valier Boys Basketball Tournament with a 79-75 win over New Athens Thursday evening.

Altamont and New Athens played to a 19-19 opening quarter tie. Kade Milleville knocked in a three-pointer, a two-pointer and three free throws for eight points in the quarter while Cooper McManaway put in two regular baskets and a three-pointer for seven.

New Athens then moved into a 39-31 halftime lead as Isaiah Lintker scored seven points and Tommy Durkanych hit five of six at the line.

But Altamont started to edge back in the third quarter with a slight 24-22 run. Ben Roedl hit three baskets for six while McManaway put in a basket and was five of six at the line for seven.

The Indians then kicked into high gear with a 24-14 final quarter run to pull out the four-point win.

Milleville went on a 10 point run with three regular baskets, a three-pointer and a free throw. Zaine Miller, who had two three-pointers coming into the final quarter, connected on two baskets and was four or four at the free throw line for eight points.  McManaway continued his hot shooting from the free throw line with four of four and the Indians pulled out the victory.

K. Milleville scored 30 points on 11 field goals, four from beyond the arc, and four of five at the line. McManaway added 18 points and Roedl and Miller chipped in with 14 each.

In other games at Sesser-Valier, Goreville beat Red Bud, 72-63, DuQuoin downed Marissa Coulterville 70-45 and Waltovnille handily beat Sesser-Vallier, 75-37.

In today’s games, New Athens meets Red Bud at 3 p.m., Altamont takes on Goreville at 4, Marissa Coulterville meets Sesser-Valier at 6 and DuQuoin and Waltonville finish out the day at 7:30 p.m.
