HAVANA — South Central fell in opening round play of the Class 8-2A Girls State Basketball Tournament Saturday at Havana Junior High School.
Bloomington Corpus Christi was a 27-14 winner over South Central.
Corpus Christi edged out to a 2-0 opening quarter lead and led 12-9 at halftime. South Central didn’t score in the third quarter as Corpus Christi had a 13-0 run.
Skylar Webster and Annie Ruholl led South Central with five points each.
The team finished with a 14-10 record.
In other first round games, Glasford Illini Bluffs won over Bourbonnais St. George, 31-19; Carthage downed Villa Grove, 44-32 and Bluffs defeated McNabb Putnam County, 28-13.
In the semifinals, Glasford Iliini Bluffs edged Bloomington Corpus Christi 26-24 and Carthage downed Bluffs 29-15.
Bloomington Corpus Christi and Bluffs will meet for third place Thursday at 6 p.m. while Glasford Illini Bluffs and Carthage square off for the championship at 7:30 p.m.
