Hi! My name is Mike Walker. I am the newest Account Executive here at WXEF/KJ Country. After graduating from Stew-Stras. H.S. and attending Lake Land College, I joined the Navy in 1982. I was a Hospital Corpsman, just like Doc, here at the station. I started my naval career in Great Lakes but spent the majority of it in southern California at Balboa Naval Hospital. I served 2 deployments aboard the USS Tarawa on a West Pac in 1996 and in the Persian Gulf during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. I was honored to serve my country for 13 years before being medically discharged in 1995.

It was at that time, my wife and I decided to return to this area to raise our boys. This was one of the best decisions we ever made….however, I do miss the ocean. After returning, I started working as the Program Director at the Effingham County YMCA and then went on to serve as Executive Director for both the Effingham and Fayette County YMCAs. In 2001, I obtained my Real Estate license and co-owned a real estate office in Vandalia. So, I have a very seasoned understanding of business ownership and the importance of good marketing.

My wife of 20 years is Jackie. We have 3 sons. Our oldest, Jake, is a helicopter pilot in the Navy and will soon be completing a 3-year tour in Japan. He and his wife, Aiko, will be moving to Boston, where he will serve his next 3-year tour at Boston University, as a Professor of Naval Science and overseeing the ROTC Program there. Our middle son, Josh, is the Sporting Clay Complex Manager at Flint Oak, a privately owned, 5000+ acre hunting club, in the southeast part of Kansas. He has been there since his college internship in 2007. Our youngest, just graduated from high school and plans to attend Lake Land College on a baseball scholarship. He hopes to further his baseball career as long as possible and pursue a career in health care.

Besides church and family, my main hobby or passion is coaching. With Jackie’s (encouragement), I started coaching in 1995, shortly after our return to this area. I have been coaching something ever since. I’ve had the privilege of working with some amazing kids. So, maybe you’ve seen me on the sidelines of some game somewhere over the past 17 years or you’ve heard me on the radio recently as Greg, Matt or Dustin’s sidekick calling some basketball and baseball games. That is really a lot of fun!

My wife and I love serving in our church and on our Marriage Ministry Team. I also volunteer at the Family Life Center, serving on the Men’s Advisory Board. We must value life at all stages, as well as encourage and support people in their efforts to be all that God intended them to be. I am so excited about joining the Premièr Broadcasting team and helping local business use the power of radio to build brand awareness and increase clientele, while improving their bottom line.
