Roxana Volleyball Tourney Finals Set, Cisne Defeats Clay City

Finals were set in the Fifth Annual Roxana Shells High School Volleyball Tournament Tuesday evening.

In Pool C, Bunker Hill defeated Alton 2-1 then beat Mount Olive 2-0 while Alton won over Mount Olive 2-0.

In Pool D, Calhoun won twice, beating Jersey 2-1 and Madison 2-0. Jersey was a 2-0 winner over Madison.

The finals, scheduled for Saturday, find Altamont taking on Roxana in Gold Medal play at 1 p.m. in the large gym while Bunker Hill faces Calhoun at 1 p.m. in the Small Gym. The winners advance to the championship match at 2 p.m. while the losers play for third place, also at 2 p.m.

In Silver Medal play, Marquette takes on East Alton/Wood River at 9 a.m. in the large gym while Alton faces Jersey at 10 a.m., also in the large gym. The winners meet for fifth place at noon while the losers square off for seventh place at 11 a.m.

In Bronze Medal action, Dupo takes on Gillespie at 9 a.m. in the small gym while Madison squares off against Mount Olive at 10 a.m. The winners meet for ninth place at noon while the losers face each other for 11th place at 11 a.m.

 

At Cisne

Cisne claimed both junior varsity and varsity victories over Clay City in Tuesday volleyball regular season play.

Cisne won the varsity contest 25-15, 18-25, 25-21. Chynna Byers led in kills with 10 while Meg Sitzes had 18 digs and three aces and Amber Atteberry eight digs and five aces. The match was the season opener for Cisne.

In junior varsity play, Cisne won 25-23, 25-16.
