St. Michael Advances To Class 8-1A State Volleyball Tourney

Sigel St. Michael advanced to the Class 8-1A State Volleyball Tournament with a victory Monday evening.

The Sharpshooters defeated Newton St. Thomas, 25-17, 25-20 in its own Class 8-1A Sectional.

St. Michael heads to the Class 8-1A State Tournament with a 23-2 record and will face LaSalle Trinity Catholic (22-0) Friday at 5:45 p.m. at Kankakee Bishop McNamara.

Other teams in the State Tournament field include Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell (20-2) against Washington St. Patrick (22-2) at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Kewanee Visitation (16-2) vs. Rantoul St. Malachy (22-1) at 7 p.m. and Carrollton St. John (25-1-1) vs. Grant Park (23-4) at 8:15 p.m.

The winners will advance to the semifinals Saturday at 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. followed by the third place contest at 2 and the championship at 3:15.

 

At Casey

North Clay saw its season come to a close at the Class 8-2A Casey-Westfield Sectional Monday.

Champaign St. Matthew was a winner over North Clay 25-14, 25-18.

North Clay ended the season with an 18-9 record. Mia Compton received the IESA Sportsmanship award for the sectional tournament.

 

At Teutopolis

Jasper County fell to Sullivan in the championship of the Class 8-3A Teutopolis Sectional Monday.

Sullivan was a winner over Jasper County, 25-14, 25-17 and improved to 18-5.

Wagner, Bergbower and Groves had one ace each for Jasper County. Stanley led in assists with three. Thomann and Wagner had three digs each. Kuhl led in blocks with two.

Sullivan advances to the Class 8-3A State Tournament Friday and will face Morris Saratoga at 4:30 p.m. at Pana High School.
