Class 8-1A Mulberry Grove Regional
Newton St. Thomas advanced to the championship match with a victory Tuesday evening.
St. Thomas won over West Salem in three sets. St. Thomas took the opener 25-8 but West Salem came back with a 25-21 victory. St. Thomas then nabbed the match 25-21.
In the opener, Grayville downed Ramsey. Ramsey won the opener 25-12 but Grayville came back with 25-21, 25-20 tallies for the win.
Newton St. Thomas will now face Grayville at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship and the right to advance to the Sigel St. Michael Sectional March 17.
Class 8-1A Martinsville Regional
Sigel St. Michael and Martinsville advanced in tthis regional.
The Sharpshooters of St. Michael were winners 25-13, 25-11 over Findlay Okaw Valley.
In the second match, Martinsville defeated Mattoon St. John's 25-22, 20-25, 25-22.
St. Michael and Martinsville now square off for the championship at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Class 8-2A Hutsonville Regional
North Clay and Oblong were winners in the second round of play at Hutsonville.
North Clay defeated Casey-Westfield, 25-20, 21-25, 25-15.
Oblong then downed Albion, 25-15, 25-11.
North Clay (17-8) and Oblong will now meet at 5 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship and the right to advance to the Casey-Westfield Sectional.
Class 8-2A Champaign St. Matthew Regional
Opening round play of this regional saw three matches on tap.
Neoga fell in the opener to Bement, 25-20, 25-10.
In the second contest, Villa Grove downed Arcola, 25-20, 25-10.
The final match of the evening went three sets. Oakwood lost the opening set to Paris Crestwood 25-21 but came back with 25-10, 25-20 scores to advance.
The regional continues tonight as Champaign St. Matthew meets Bement at 5:30 followed by Villa Grove against Oakwood at 6:45.
Class 8-2A Nokomis Regional
South Central was a winner in the second round of the Nokomis Regional.
South Central defeated Assumption Central A&M, 25-15, 25-4.
In the second contest, Nokomis defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown in three sets.
SEB took the opening set 25-17 but Nokomis came back with 25-22, 25-23 wins fo the match.
South Central and Nokomis now meet for the regional championship Thursday at 6 p.m.
Class 8-3A Teutopolis Regional
Jasper County advanced to the title contest with a victory Tuesday evening at Teutopolis.
In the opening match, Jasper County downed Robinson Nuttall. Jasper County won the opening set 25-14 but Nuttall came back with a 25-21 count. Jasper County then pulled out the victory 25-20.
Thomann and Groves led the winners in aces with five each. Stanley led in kills with 10. Wagner had 16 assists. Meinhart finished with eight digs and Kuhl led in blocks with three.
Jasper County improved to 21-1 on the season.
The second contest went to Shelbyville Moulton over Red Hill, 25-19, 25-15.
Jasper County and Shelbyville Moulton will now meet at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship and a berth in the Teutopolis Sectional.
Class 8-3A Teutopolis Regional
Jasper County -- Thomann, 5 aces, 7 kills, 1 assist, 4 digs, 1 block; Groves, 5 aces, 2 kills, 1 dig; Meinhart, 4 aces, 3 kills, 8 digs; Stanley, 4 aces, 10 kills, 6 assists, 1 dig, 1 block; Wagner, 2 kills, 16 assists, 2 digs; Kuhl, 2 kills, 3 blocks; Gentry, 1 dig; Copper, 1 dig
Class 8-4A Charleston Regional
Effingham saw its season come to a close at the Charleston Regional Tuesday evening.
In the opening match, Taylorville won over Rochester, 25-15, 22-25 25-16.
Effingham then faced Charleston. Charleston won the opening set 25-15. The Mustangs came back with a 25-16 victory. Charleston won the match 25-20.
Tayloville and Charleston will now meet for the championship Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The winner advances to the Quincy Sectional March 17.
